Infinite Border presents works by Sol Hashemi, Sara Ludy and Cameron Rowland in the courtyard at INTERSTATE.
A work of art here might be hard to find, placed in a far corner or seeping into the texture of some wall. Not camouflaged, but sufficiently engaged with its ground that it runs away a little bit through the point of contact, whose pores become wider and deeper the closer you look. It will be refreshing itself from some component held at a distance – a proposition generating static with a good profile and a warm tone, or the concrete proportions of an imaginary space. It will be bolted high on a wall or sitting on an oil stain, maintaining autonomy without closure, taking small bites of the outside in exchange for portions of itself.
Sol Hashemi was born in 1987 in Vancouver, Washington. He lives and works in New York and Seattle. He received his BFA from the University of Washington where he received a Mary Gates Research Scholarship and the Matt J. Jarvis Travel Award for Photography. Recent solo exhibitions include Technical Support at Annarumma Gallery, Naples, and Software Update / System Build at The Henry Art Gallery, Seattle. He is represented by the James Harris Gallery in Seattle and is a recipient of the Kayla Skinner Award from the Seattle Art Museum. His first words were "garage sale."
Sara Ludy (b. 1980) explores confluence of the physical and virtual using a variety of traditional and digital media. Her practice incorporates photography, animation, video, live performance, computer drawing, virtual environments and sound.
Cameron Rowland was born in Philadelphia in 1988 and currently lives and works in New York. He received a BA in Studio Art from Wesleyan University in 2011. He has had solo presentations at Essex Street, New York; Wilfred Yang, Los Angeles; Appendix Space, Portland; and Wave Hill, Bronx. He has been in group exhibitions at Miguel Abreu, New York; Galerie der HFBK, Hamburg; Weingrull, Kalsruhe; and Deuxpiece, Basel.
Zachary Davis is an artist and curator living in New York. Previous curatorial projects include Appendix Project Space, a residency and exhibition space that operated from 2008 2013 in Portland, Oregon, and A Given Distance, presented at Ditch Projects in Springfield, Oregon.
